Joining in Obsidian Activities As a Guest

The best way to get involved with the Obsidians is take part in some of our activities.  We offer a wide variety of outdoor related activities for a variety of skill and fitness levels.  These include hikes, climbs, cross country ski trips, backpacks, bus trips and other outdoor sports.  We also have a potluck each month that features a slideshow by a member or a guest presenter.  Guests are welcome at all of our activities.  The trip fee for guests is $5 for hikes and ski trips, $15 for climbs or $1 for potlucks, plus a car pooling fee to the driver of $.07/mile if driving is involved.

In the lower right portion of our Home Page are several ways to access our schedule that may help you decide which of our many activities you would like to try.  A simple, print friendly schedule of upcoming events can be accessed here.  Some trips, specifically hikes/backpacks are rated - the following ratings may help you select the perfect trip:

Signup for most activities is at our bulletin board in the Eugene YMCA at 2055 Patterson (go in the north door, go past the first door to your left, watch the wall to your left).  The signup sheet for an activity usually goes up a week or so before a trip with details of the trip, the trip leaders name and phone number.  You are encouraged to call the leader, especially if you have questions about the trip.

When you decide to go on an activity with the Obsidians, your enjoyment and safety, as well as the enjoyment and safety of the entire group are of utmost importance.  In addition to consulting the trip leader about your trip, here are some links that may be helpful in preparing for your trip:
