Skinner Butte - Eagles Nest

Monday, May 21, 2012
Leader: Margaret Essenberg
Hike: 1 miles, 200 ft (Easy)

Douglas-fir and big-leaf maples shielded the nine Obsidians from the light rain that fell as we walked up the north side of Skinner Butte. We went to this year's good eagle-viewing spot, which is on the path below and parallel to the summit's paved service road. The two eaglets are now big and black and have definitely aquiline beaks. As we walked down, Barb and Margaret lagged behind to identify the base of the eagle tree and saw an adult eagle arrive at the nest, bringing a small fish. Most of us then retired to Fifth Street Market for eclectic lunches.
