Row River Trail

Friday, September 28, 2012
Leader: Joe Sanders
Bike: 31 miles, 300 ft (Moderate)

Seven riders, including newcomer Gabrielle Lent and her dad, Norm, enjoyed a perfect-weather late summer ride on the Row River Trail, passing by scenic Dorena lake outside Cottage Grove. For those who might not know, the Row River trail is one of a series of "rails to trails" conversions throughout the USA in which one -time rail road beds have been converted to bike trails, insuring a trail wide enough to enjoy biking two abreast, with no vehicular traffic, and never more than gentle grade changes. Leaves and some form of fallen tree nuts crunched and popped as we rode along the dapple shaded route, with some hints of early turning fall foliage. We enjoyed lunch at the scenic Wildwood Falls which, I've been told has a local folkloric reputation as a "make out Party" spot on weekend summer nights for local teens testing hormones! This day we had the place to ourselves.

ON the return ride, Eric Swegles had the misfortune of a front tire slipping off the slightly raised paved surface, causing him to "slip" off his bike. Surface cuts were expertly attended to by both Pat Esch and Jim Pierce, and the trip concluded without further drama.

Members: Joe Sanders, Patricia Esch, Eric Swegles, Barbara Aten, Jim Pierce. Nonmembers: Gabrielle Lent, Norman Lent.
