Tire Mountain

Sunday, October 14, 2012
Leader: Don Colgan
Hike: 7.6 miles, 800 ft (Moderate)

Ominous weather reports had me worried, but we caught a break for this Sunday hike, and nine of us took three cars up to the trailhead. It was an excellent fall day, just the perfect temperature, and we had a great hike to Tire Mountain. Along the way are impressive stands of timber, dry meadows, ridgeline views of the Cascades, and a not-too-steep ascent. The top of Tire Mountain is rimmed by tall trees so it does not provide panoramic views, but it is a very pleasant locale to sit on a rock and have some lunch. We made our descent without incident and were back at the trailhead by 3:00. Thank you to a congenial group for a memorable day!

Members: Don Colgan, Steve Gunn, Jyoti Naik, Jane Bartell, Jennifer Haynes, Tiffany Boehland, Tom Woxell, Brian Popowsky. Nonmembers: Holger Krentz.
