Spectacular volumes of snowmelt-enhanced-water-flow make May a great month to hike Sweet Creek Falls. Old timers on this trail were pleasantly surprised and newcomers were duely impressed. The sun played hide-and-seek with us, and only a handfull of raindrops fell on our parade. We scrubbed the Beaver Creek optional addition to be sure to make our dinner reservations on time at Alpha-Bit Restaurant in Mapleton. And what a feast it was! We stuffed on swordfish stuffed with spinach, feta and garlic; Tuscan salad, bowtie pasta, saute'ed summer squash; fresh, hot, homemade bread; and chocolate espresso cake - the fixed menu for their Friday, May 4 weekly dinner - all for 11.25, their fixed price for all Friday dinners at this point. Call Alpha-Bit the beginning of each month for that month's Friday night offerings. All thirteen famished hikers praised Chef Frank ,and some suggest we offer this hike/dinner combination again in late August when we can cool off on a hot day by sitting in the water spilling (more gently in August) over some of the flatter rocks in the creekbed.Members: Joella Ewing, Tom Musselwhite, Lou Maenz, Clara Emlen, Lana Lindstrom, Richard Hughes, Sharon Duncan, Jim Duncan, Kathy Hoeg, Margaret Prentice, Patricia Esch, Ken Kodama, Joe Sanders.
