A very cool morning became a warm and sunny afternoon for ten riders peddling the flat Willamette Valley north of Eugene. There was some headwind on our way north to the orchard, with the promise of a tail wind on our return by the plowed grass fields waiting for the rains. The north/south roads we chose had less traffic than Coburg Rd going in and out of Detering Orchard. The lovely day brought a happy crowd to enjoy the hay rides, kids' straw bale maze, free cider and scads of apples (36 varieties!) and pumpkins to purchase. Disappointingly there was no free ice cream this year (got too expensive), and though the squares of apple cobbler were small, they were delicious. The longest lines were not for cobbler, but for the restroom.Members: Patricia Esch, Barbara Aten, Howard Loewinger, Joe Sanders, Jim Pierce.
