Grizzly Peak

Sunday, October 7, 2012
Leader: Elle Weaver
Hike: 10 miles, 2700 ft (Difficult)

What a clear, crisp fall day for hiking! And what a fun, social group of hikers! The trail initially follows Pamelia Creek and winds through fallen trees, full ferns, and moss gardens. At Pamelia Lake the vine maples dazzled red, yellow, or with both on the same leaf. The group wasn't fazed by the 2700' elevation gain and merrily chatted up the trail. At the top we were treated to sunshine, warm rocks, and a fabulous close-up view of Mt. Jefferson. Having fun along the way down, we renamed plants giving them new, creative names we were more likely to remember. We especially liked the tree stump table covered with blooming onion mushrooms!
