Trials Country

Sunday, May 13, 2012
Leader: Anne Dhu McLucas
Hike: 3 miles, 200 ft (Easy)

Four Obsidians (including the two leaders) and non-members met at 9:30 at the sign-in shed for Trials Country (a free, non-profit park just outside Eugene, open to the public with 70 miles of trails for hikers, bikers, horse-back riders, and quiet motorized vehicles). After introductions we took off for a lovely 3 and 1/2 mile hike down one small stream, up a hill, and back down to another stream, which we crossed twice--finally stopping for snacks (and a ride home on the ATV for the tired little ones). We finished with a hike through the woods and across an oak savannah. Fields of wild iris were in bloom, and we found an unusual kind of hanging moss, as well as a snake. Non-members included Anne Azéma (from France!), Laurie Steinbruck, Gina Psaki, Annie Fischer, Carolyn Sojak, James and Sarah Gillette and their two children, Ben and Sam (ages 7 and 5), as well as Sarah's mother Cindy. We finished a bit after noon and all headed off to various celebrations.

Members: Anne Dhu McLucas, Jim Gillette, Richard McGuinness, Darko Sojak. Nonmembers: Laurie Steinbruck, Carolyn Sojak.
