What a glorious day at the coast when it was yet another foggy day in the valley! This hike was in honor of Sheila Ward, long term Obsidian Treasurer who died in August, 2007; her birthday was January 1. It was low tide, making hiking easy on hard packed sand. And we were able to tuck into a sand depression and eat lunch out of the wind. Helen brought Christmas crackers -- paper tubes with both ends twisted. We had fun pulling and making them pop and then laughing at the lame jokes inside, both in English and French.... who knew that at least 5 of us spoke some French! We were all reluctant to leave the beautiful weather, so after the hike, we retired to the coffee shop in Florence for hot drinks and conversation. What a convivial group to bring in the new year! Special thanks to Helen and Kathy for driving.Members: Lana Lindstrom, Richard Hughes, Helen Martz, Kathy Hoeg, Mary Holbert, Martha Welches, Susan Sanazaro, Pat Soussan, Sharon Duncan, Jim Duncan.
