On one of the few rain-free days of the week, 13 hikers met at the Churchill Plaza for a walk through the hills of SW Eugene. We walked up Warren St. until we came to the paved path that leads into the wooded areas, then headed sharply uphill for about ¼ mile. We continued on a gentle uphill, spotting deer and wild turkey along the way, until we came to the high point of the hike. The view to the valley floor and the Coburg Hills was not as clear as I had hoped, but with the aid of binoculars we could spot some familiar sights below. We walked on to another vista point with views of Fern Ridge Reservoir and the Coast Range, still under cloudy skies. Retracing our path for a short distance we started downhill, following a creek that was full of water from the recent rains. The path ended at Brittany St. and it was city streets after that until we got back to our cars at the Plaza.
