With a party of three, we were able to get a prompt start up Highway 58 leaving Eugene in overcast skies. We reached a dry Gold Lake Nordic Park parking lot with the sun shining brightly. At this time, the Ski Patrol Lodge is closed for the season. The temperature was still cold – hovering at 32 degrees – causing the conditions to be a little icy in the morning. We opted to travel up Abernathy Road passing Bechtel Shelter and ending at Midnight Lake. Warming sunshine made it easy to chat and enjoy lunch. Upon having our fill, the lucky trio of ladies headed back down the ridge to Abernathy Road to head out. The sun had softened the icy conditions making it a pleasant ski back to the car. Truly enjoyed the good company and skill of my companions - Thank you!Members: Laurie Funkhouser. Nonmembers: Melanie Speicher, Linda Eaton.
