Midnight Lake

Saturday, February 4, 2012
Leader: Laurie Funkhouser
Xski: 6 miles, 600 ft (Moderate)

With concerns of potentially icy conditions, the party of three – Randy, Brenda and I - met at 8:00 at South Eugene High School and shared a cup of coffee before heading up Highway 58. Road conditions were great, no ice. The REI Winter Fest was taking place with lots of people checking out gear. In the parking lot at Gold Lake, Randy recognized Obsidian member Marci Hansen who was a delightful addition to our crew for the day. Wonderful conditions: snow was like butter; sun shining; sky blue and the crowd remained close to the parking lot. We headed up the PCT, reaching sparkling Midnight Lake around 11:00, took photographs and headed to Bechtel Shelter for lunch. The condition of the snow was better than expected. Reached the shelter shortly thereafter and opted to sit in the sun for lunch. Then the quick, easy glide back to the car. Great day! Thanks to the crew – Randy Sinnott , Brenda Kameenui and Marci Hansen (unofficial).
