South Waldo

Friday–Sunday, September 23–25, 2011
Leader: Scott Hovis
Bk Pk: 11 miles, 1000 ft (Moderate)

The Waldo Lake trail is always nicely maintained.....the side trails like the Black Meadows loop trail could use some help.....faint in areas....a lot of blow down that need a saw crew.....there R some helpful surveyors tape put up here & there but I'm not sure how long that will last. We stayed next to the South Waldo Lake Shelter. The roof is in good shape but the wood stove is showing signs of wear. The doors are missing......that & I'm guessing the 5% lean of the stove pipe is causing a poor up draft.....much of the smoke is billowing out the front.....the ax is useless @ the moment, the handle is many things this summer....the huckleberries are late because of the heavy snows....I've never seen so many berries @ the beginning of fall...
