After so many rainy days we really lucked out, clouds, warm sunshine and not a drop of rain, perfect weather. Pre's Trail is easy walking, soft underfoot but we did digress for a short time and walked along the bike path to be closer to the river. Along the route we looked at some of the Talking Stones, set there in 2002 to remind us of the culture of the Kalapuya people who hunted there and canoed on the river. The stones reintroduce Kalapuya words, with their English translation.
Vegetation was lush, larkspurs and Solomon's seal filled the understory in places. Birds were happy and among those we identified were Western Tanagers and Tri-colored Blackbirds. Making their way along the canal in a straight line was a family of Canada geese, the goslings quite big already. A few fishermen were trying their luck in the pond.
This was a great way to spend a morning with a neat group of fellow outdoor lovers. Among the seven of us were two non-members and by the time you read this Laurie will be a member.Members: Margaret Prentice, Janet Jacobsen, Barb Revere, Joanne Ledet, Keiko Bryan. Nonmembers: Patrick Bronson, Laurie Marshall.
