PCT North of Santian Snow Park

Saturday, April 23, 2011
Leader: Dick Hildreth
SShoe: 6 miles, 1000 ft (Moderate)

The weather and snow conditions were outstanding for the 4 members and 3 nonmembers who snowshoed for 2 hours from the Santiam Snow Park (across from Hoodoo Ski Area) north on the Pacific Crest Trail to a lunch viewpoint overlooking central Oregon to the east and 3 Fingered Jack to the north. The downhill return took an hour and a half via Jack Meadows to the Rockpile at the junction of the PCT and the Skyline Trail. The final backcountry segment to the snow park involves going south and then southwest down a draw to a small pond, then south above a creek to the snow play area and parking lot. Special thanks to drivers Bill Carpenter and Laurie Funkhouser.

Members: Hildreth, Dick, James, Daphne, Flashenberg, Paul, Funkhouser, Laurie. Nonmembers: Bandstra, Jessica, Carpenter, Bill, Burleson, Elizabeth.
