70% chance of rain predicted. Who would have thought that instead of rainpants we needed sunglasses and sunscreen for our beach walk? The calm waves spread peacefully on the open expanse of beach as we wondered how fortunate we were to celebrate Mother’s Day on such a gorgeous day. We left Eugene at 7:30 a.m., started hiking on the trail near Adobe Motel at 9:45, ate lunch at Tillicum Beach Park at 11:00 and arrived at Patterson State Park around 1:00. It was a minus low tide at 10:40 a.m. allowing us to easily wade across the streams and get our boots wet. Marianne and Keiko shed their waterproof boots and went barefoot. Thanks to Sam and Jane for driving us out of the rain in Eugene and taking charge of the shuttle. Another thanks to Birgitte Williams who has led this hike 11 times and gave me lots of tips about tide tables and the best times to lead it.Members: Jacobsen, Janet, Larsen, Sandra, Miller, Sam, Camp, Marianne, Mac Afee, Patricia, Hackett, Jane, Bryan, Keiko.
