W Eugene Wetlands Bike & Birding

Tuesday, April 26, 2011
Leader: Anne Montgomery
Bike: 14 miles (Easy)

I started biking toward the meeting location in a slow drizzle while wondering if it would continue to rain during the entire morning. As I crested the Chambers Connector, I glanced right to see sun on the distant western hills!

When my two companions and I cycled from the parking lot at 8:30, the rain stopped. Except for a cold wind, we had good weather for our journey.

We viewed red-winged blackbirds, mallards, green-winged teals, cinnamon teals, shovelers, American widgeons, Canada geese, red-necked phalarope, great egret, great blue heron, red-tailed hawk, meadowlark, green-violet swallows, barn swallows, and song swallows. We saw a large flock that we tentatively identified as dunlin.

Thanks to my two participants for making this a very enjoyable morning,

Members: Anne Montgomery, Patricia Esch, Clara Emlen.
