Bechtel Shelter

Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Leader: Jim Pierce
SShoe: 3 miles, 400 ft (Moderate)

The plan was to go to Diamond Creek Falls, but there was NO snow under the trees, so we went 1000 feet higher to Bechtel Shelter. The 18 signups dwindled to six actual participants. The promised rain cameā€¦ on the drive up, but turned to blue skies at the Gold Lake snow park. The snow was wet and heavy, of course. The snow gauge near the trail head read 30 inches of snow. We had a speedy hike enjoying the many types of trees and birds. Seeing the sun glinting off the snow was an unexpected treat too. Enjoying the sunny snow was a soon to be member, Bob Rein, and members Pat Esch, Keiko Byran, Susan Sanazaro, Walt Dolliver and Leader Jim Pierce.
