Three Mile Lake Tahkenitch

Saturday, December 18, 2010
Leader: Becky Lipton
Hike: 6.7 miles, 1200 ft (Moderate)

Ten hopeful hikers met in the pouring rain to determine the fate of the Three Mile Lake hike. One doubtful soul bailed out and the remainder decided to believe the weather report of maybe 1/4 inch of precip for the coast and headed west. Those 9 trusting persons were well rewarded with a lovely hike and partly sunny skies.. although a very brief shower and wind did strike as soon as lunch was retrieved from backpacks. The group also had quite an adventure while trying to discern the locatoin of the new trail from the northern most portion of the loop going south through low sandy dunes towards Three Mile Lake. Although new trail markers have been installed, there really is no trail yet and at times all nine of us were fanned out, looking for the next trail marker. It was kind of like a big Easter egg hunt but unfortunately caused us to miss the beach walk. After seeing Three Mile Lake, the group split, with some folks hiking back through the high forested dunes and some hiking back on the beach. Oh yea, there was another brief and light shower and some hail on the return trip. A great adventure was had by all. In addition to those listed, the following guests joined us: Jonathon Jost and Pam Mortisson.

Members: Becky Lipton, Don Cross, Jane Allen, Brian Popowsky, Sarah Praskievicz. Nonmembers: Cindy Rust, Ryan Hovland, Jonathan Jost, Pam Motisson.
