Under a mixture of sun and cloud, our group, ranging in age from 6 to sixty-plus, enjoyed our 8.3 mile trek through the refuge. We discovered elk trails and spotted a coyote, deer, and bald eagle. Our biggest challenge was to avoid stepping on the orange-brown salamanders, who perhaps this day were following their genetic drive to rise from their winter havens and strike out for new territory. The air was filled with songs of the Marsh wren, Song sparrow and Red-wing blackbird. This refuge is a wonderful world to explore.Members: Betty Grant, Jennifer Haynes, Sarah Praskievicz, Roberta Chord, Chyanne Estes, Trenton Estes, Autumn Estes, May Fogg.
