SOLV Beach Cleanup-Washburn State Park

Saturday, March 30, 2013
Leader: Joella Ewing
Trl Mnt: 4 miles (Easy)

A pristine, warm, sunny, cloudless, bright, shiny day on the beach. Sweaters off. Sunscreen on. Eight of us arrived early at Washburne Park to get ahead of the crowd, but the beach, again this year, was amazingly clean. Oregonians are becoming good stewards. We all partially filled our bags with mostly plastic and styrofoam in all their forms, all injurious to birds and other sealife. Tom and Nancy garnered the most interesting find - a small tire on its wheel with Japanese insignia. Whether it was just a "made in Japan" or it actually traveled the ocean currents, we'll never know. We all had a wonderful lunch at the Bridgewater in Florence Old Town. That restaurant never fails. No trip fees collected because this was a service project.

Members: Ewing, Joella, Musselwhite, Tom, Terry, Judy, Strahon, Guy, Whitfield, Nancy. Nonmembers: Belleau, Cheryl, Belleau, Claire, Belleau, Lindsey.
