Skinner Butte Eagles

Monday, April 8, 2013
Leader: Margaret Essenberg
Hike: 1 miles, 200 ft (Easy)

The rain held off as nine members and non-member Tommy Young, new resident of Eugene, walked up the Northside trail through birdsong, blooming Trillium, and the bright green leaves of the spring flush. From the woods near the summit, we saw an adult eagle at the nest., perhaps standing - beside an eaglet? There were two pink strips of food (salmon?) laid on the lip of the nest. We walked around the summit, then came down by way of the new trail that leads to the RiverPlay playground. Six of us then walked to McMenamin's Northside for lunch. Three days later, Margaret and Richard saw an eaglet in the nest.

Members: Margaret Essenberg, Richard Essenberg, Helen Martz, Ginny Reich, Sandra Larsen, Clara Emlen, Moshe Rapaport, Rick Ahrens, Dick Hildreth. Nonmembers: Tommy Young.
