After the usual turbulence of last minute sign ups and cancellations, a final count of 16 of us took on "the backside" of Mt. Pisgah, entering from the much lesser used trailhead on Ridge line Road off RT 58. The hike was a loop designed to maximize panoramic views while keeping feet as mud free as possible, for this time of year. Loop began on Trail # 2, bearing left on to # 6, crossing over on the firelane rd. (R) back on to # 2 (L) doglegging (L) briefly on to # 1 to the summit, down and along # 6, crossing over a lush grassy field to walk out final stretch on trail # 3. Unlike the high traffic steep ascent on trail # 1 from the Eugene side, our views were enjoyed while having the trails pretty much to ourselves. Weather was acceptable, if not quite sparkling (no rain) -clear enough to enjoy the expansive views which garnered favorable comments.
All participants were quite fit, marching tidily up the steeper sections of the ascent, with the aging leader slogging along at the rear!
Participants commented favorably upon the "relaxed" commencement times: 9:40 AM (carpool meeting) 10:15 start (from Trailhead) Including a leisurely lunch break, we were back at the cars in about three hours.Members: Joe Sanders, May Fogg, Diane Schechter, Anne Montgomery, Darko Sojak, Sharon Friedland, Mark Hougardy, Christiane Hougardy, Anna Hougardy, Sam Tracer. Nonmembers: Iustinian Popa, Morris Ostrofsky, Karl Lockbaum, Kitty (Kathleen) Griffin, Ian Fuller, Pierce Griffin.
