A rainbow emerging from the hills around Mt. June and Hardesty greeted us when we reached the summit. We kept turning around to view the 8:42 pm sunset, the rainbow, and the hidden 8:25pm full moon rise. However, the eastern sky was dark with clouds blocking out the moon. Back down by the gate, we lingered to view Mercury, Jupiter and Venus in the western sky. By then we could see moonlight filtering through the clouds. With such a gloomy weather forecast, our successful celestial evening was a surprise.
