Tahkenitch Dunes

February 25, 2010

We lucked out as far as weather was concerned—no rain or wind and moderate temperatures which was surprising with the rain we have had the past few days. Seven members left Eugene at 8:30 and were on the trailhead just before 10:30. The trail was fine, no mud or standing water. We ran into a big problem when we tried to approach the beach, from the sand dunes, due to winter storms. The trail to the beach was a cliff that was too high to safely go down. We bushwhacked through the stickery dune grass for quite a distance before we could find a spot to drop down to the beach. Once we got on the beach the rest of the hike was uneventful. I think the group agreed you couldn’t find a better day in mid-winter than last Thursday.

Hikers were Daniele Delaby, Jim Duncan, Sharon Duncan, Yuan Hopkins, Sandra Larsen (leader), Barbara Shomaker and Michelle Tambellini.
