Gold Lake

January 16, 2010

With a 9:00 a.m. departure, the crew of lucky thirteen headed up to Highway 58 under cloudy skies. By 10:40 a.m., we were geared, reintroduced and trekking on the trail. The snow was old, slightly slushy but enough to provide traction for the snowshoes. Thanks to Paul Flashenburg for providing lead for the trip - the fast crew was, well, fast! The trail took us to Upper Marilyn Lake then Lower Marilyn Lake then reached Gold Lake. Our group lunched by the creek with half opting for the shelter and half opting for an outdoor picnic table. The sun tried to break through but no success. Fortunately, no precipitation either! After lunch, we took the 50 foot excursion to see Gold Lake then headed up the road to return to the vehicles. The fun crew consisted of members: Chris Molly, Paul Flashenberg, Mike Bullington, Heather Home, Jane Allen, Daphne Mantis, Brad Bennett, Sally Bennett, Laurie Funkhouser (leader) and new adventurers: Alex and Clare Vondertaar, Love Opincar and Micah Allen.
