Sahalie/Koosah Falls

October 1, 2010

Only one other person signed up. The morning of the hike, at the appointed time in the 30th and Hilyard Albertsons parking lot, no one else appeared. So we took off. What a day to walk the Waterfalls Loop, along the McKenzie. The sky was blue, and the weather was in the high 60s, a perfect hiking temperature. The trees are changing into their orange and yellow attire, such a startling contrast against the deep green, mossy banks and grey-black basalt banks. Besides the Sahalie overlook, we stopped at a variety of other viewpoints to take photos of this ever-glorious landscape with two splendid waterfalls. We took the required detour at the junction for Carmen Reservoir, where workmen and women are repairing the bridge. The walk around the reservoir added an unshaded but pleasant half-mile to our trip. We walked up the path to Koosah, and had an early lunch near a ledge overlooking the smaller falls. We continued to the cusp of Clear Lake. On the way home, we ended the trip with a refreshment stop at Takoda’s.
