Beach Clean-Up

September 25, 2010

Nine Obsidians and one non-member enthusiastically picked up tons (well, it seemed like tons) of trash on the beach at the end of Sparrow Park Road out of Gardiner Saturday, Sept. 25. Weather was perfect mid-60s and the company perfect, too.

Wayne Cleall carried the heaviest bag (about 40 lbs.) back to a waiting truck provided by SOLV, the sponsoring organization. His wife, Beth Roy, garnered the most unique find, a dead banded bird, which she sealed into a small plastic bag so authorities can record the data. Bonnie Richman successfully used her invention, combining a sifter with large holes and a colander with smaller holes to sift small plastic bits from the sand.

Participants were members Wayne Cleall, Walt Dolliver, Joella Ewing (leader), Tori Lentfer, Norma Lockyear, Tom Musselwhite, Bonnie Richman, Beth Roy and Ernst Schwintzer, and nonmember Sally O’Donnell.
