Mt. Pisgah Sunset/Moonrise

July 26, 2010

Nine of us hiked from the east Ridgeway Trailhead to view the sunset and moonrise from the top of Mt. Pisgah. The shady east side with the forested trail is a comfortable way to hike when the starting temperature is 89 degree. By the time we reached the summit for the 8:43 p.m. sunset, there was a cool breeze. With clouds to the east preventing us from viewing the moonrise, we headed down the south ridge while it was still light. We had a smudgy view of the moon as we neared our cars. We were back in town around 10:20 p.m. The loop hike was a “cool” way to end a hot day. Lane County Passes are needed for this trailhead but the fee box had been vandalized. When I called Lane County Parks earlier in the day, I was told that I would need to get a day pass from the fee box on the west side. No sympathy was offered! Fortunately, John Jacobsen had a county pass and Royal Murdock loaned us his.

Hikers were John Agnew, LaRee Beckley, Myron Cook, Janet Jacobsen (leader), John Jacobsen, Joanne Ledet, John Moser, Nay Rathakette and Bonnie Richman.
