Fish Lake Remount Depot Cabins

January 14-16, 2009

The historic cabins have been maintained nicely. The stove in the large cabin does not work however. The top burners do! It’s too bad the highway is now so close. The traffic from the road takes away from the wilderness experience. None the less, it’s a wonderful place for a get away. We did some bushwhacking. One plus with having the many roads in the area means you can always get back to your car with basic trail finding skills. The cabins have a book of the history of the area. It was with pride we noticed many references, including pictures, of Obsidians. One photo of an Obsidian was dated 1933. We had planned to snowshoe at Ikenick Snow Park across the highway from Clear Lake on the way home. It was closed due to logging. We were there on a Friday. It might be different on Sat/Sun but I’d call ahead.

Participants were Keiko Bryan, Daphne James and Hovis Scott, leader.
