Big Fall Creek
October 11, 2009
Six bikers arrived at the meeting place, Lowell State Park, under
cloudy skies. This ride was rescheduled from the previous Sunday due to
poor weather. With a temperature of about 40 in the parking lot, we
were wondering what the weatherman had in store for us with our “redo”.
We had a couple of small hills early in the ride, so we all quickly
warmed up even though the temperature really hadn’t. Fortunately, after
about 12 miles the clouds began to burn off as we headed into the Fall
Creek burn area. The recent cold temperatures and the lack of shade in
the burn had the vine maple showing off their spectacular fall colors.
By the time we arrived at our lunch spot at Puma Creek Campground, the
skies were clear. We lunched at a picnic table located in the sun and
basked in its warmth. After lunch we had a beautiful ride back to
Lowell. Although even George, our resident polar bear, wore a jacket
for the entire ride, everyone really enjoyed the fall weather and
scenery. Riders were Dave Becker, Barb Bruns, George Jobanek, Darlene
Mancuso, Joyce Sanders and leader Stewart Hoeg.
