River Trail/Skinner Butte

November 20, 2008

We began under a rainbow and clearing skies and needed sun glasses atop Skinner Butte. . . but had to deal with sporadic rain showers on most of our hike. Starting at the duck pond in Alton Baker Park, we crossed over to Skinner Butte Park and followed the trail to the top of the butte. . . getting a fleeting glance at a bald eagle overhead and spotting its nest (we think). On the way down the other side we found the Columns clear of risk takers on this wet day, went by the Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House, made a pit stop at EWEB and continued on to the Autzen bike bridge and back to the duck pond via the South Bank Trail. Braving the weather were members Myron Cook, Dick Hildreth, Marshall Kandell and Barbara Morgan; and member-to-be Ed Lizewski on his third and qualifying hike.
