Three Sisters traverse
May 4, 2008
We all met at the McManigal’s “shacklet” in Sisters Saturday night.
Sunday morning we drove to Mt. Bachelor parking lot and started. The
winds drove the clouds away just as we arrived and started out in a
bright blue sky with a few clouds here and there. Temp was 36 degrees.
We skied across Dutchman flat for four miles broke out into open at
Ditch creek. The weather remained mostly sunny and a little warmer.
Took pictures of Broken Top and worked our way north towards Tam
McArthur rim. We skied along the east side of Broken Top in beautiful weather taking pictures of the mountain. After seven miles we stopped
for lunch. From there we skied to McArthur rim worked our way east for
½ mile and broke out on the rim just above Three Creeks Lake
perfectly. Tested our Telemark skills going down the rim and hit Three
Creeks Lake at the old campground. Looked back up the rim and admired
the rim we just skied off. From there we had a nice five mile down hill
run to the Three Creeks Lake snow park. Got into the car and drove back
to Sisters. Elevation gain for the trip 1600 feet. Miles skied 15, time
took 7 hours 15 minutes. Weather perfect with calm winds and mostly
sunny skies. Snow conditions perfect spring like. A very good way to
end the winter ski season with a long open ski. Special Thanks to
Lenore McManigal who handled the car shuttle that makes this trip such
a fun adventure. Those on the trip Lubos Hubata-Vacek, Dave Jensen,
Chrissy Anderson, Susan Wanser and Leader Kevin McManigal
