LCC & Lunch at Renaissance Room

November 13, 2008

The big decision today, was what to order for lunch! Our trail crossed the playing fields along 30th, before entering the neighboring forests on the southern and western edge of campus. We hiked the jogging trail with ease, including an “exploratory” to a little outdoor amphitheater, up to a communications tower for a peek at Mt. Pisgah, then out to 30th St. again. Only then did we venture into the maze of campus buildings in search of the Center Building, where the Culinary Students prepare lunch five days a week as part of their practicum. We asked and received good directions when we were only 100 yards from their door. The menu offered three dishes: beef, fish, or vegetarian — with a “dessert sampler” included. All pronounced the food very good. A short conversation with a young fellow in a chef’s smock at a nearby table revealed that he is graduate a graduate of LCC (six years ago) and the “guest chef” this day. A Eugene native, he is home visiting and “between jobs”. His latest gig: working for Thomas Keller at the French Laundry in Yountville, CA — a Michelin 3-star restaurant — so, no surprise that the food was good. Thanks to all my wonderful dining and walking companions — and Mother Nature for the beautiful day!

Participants were Tom Adamcyk, Walt Dolliver, Jim Duncan, Sharon Duncan, Dick Essenberg, Margaret Essenberg, Janet Jacobsen, Joanne Ledet, Nicky Masters, Deborah McGinley Moshe Rapaport, Barb Revere (leader) and Pat Soussan.
