The big question was whether to do the hike clockwise or
counterclockwise. We took the more difficult route, going down South
Shasta Loop and up the more challenging North Shasta Loop. Dick
Hildreth and Myron Cook had been on the hike before, but said they saw
things differently going in the opposite direction. The hike was all
new to Ed Lizewski, who just moved here from Indiana a couple of weeks
ago and was already on his second Obsidian trip. (Note to next year’s
board and chairs: Ed wants to get involved in trail maintenance). We
saw a couple of deer today, including a buck with a big rack.
