Duck Pond to Island Park

October 30, 2008

On what promised to be the final glorious day of autumn before the rains commenced and daylight savings time ended, there were but two stalwart Obsidians on this wonderful stroll. Alton Baker Park was dressed in its finest fall colors and did its best to luxuriously carpet its trails with leaves of all hues and shapes. The hike along Pre’s Trail to Island Park offered a continuing series of classic fall scenes, serene water vistas, scurrying squirrels and a distant great blue heron (we always see one. . . is it the same one?). Our timing was perfect for catching the Em-X back to Agate St., from where we returned to the duck pond via the Autzen Bridge and river trail. The weather was overcast and a bit on the cool side. There were public restrooms on both ends of the hike. Who could ask for anything more!?! Hikers were Myron Cook and Marshall Kandell.
