Carl Lake

October 5, 2008

The crew left SEHS close to 8:00 under cloudy skies. After a brief stop at Harbicks on Highway 126, reached the trailhead to begin hiking close to 10:45 a.m. with the temperature gauge showing 52 degrees. At the beginning of the hike, the trail weaved through the 2003 burn with the trees looking stark in contrast to the beautiful fall colors of the undergrowth. Took a break at the first lake — Cabot Lake — then continued on to reach Carl Lake. A change in weather took place. The clouds came in and the soft mist began with a touch of a breeze. Lunch was short to avoid getting too cold. A brisk walk back kept the coldness at bay and presented a rainbow. Reached the cars around 3:30 to head home under rainy skies. A great day with good company — thank you all!

Hikers were members Carol Armstrong, Brad Bennett, Laurie Funkhouser (leader), Dick Hildreth, Sue Meyers, Sam Miller, Chris Molly, Moshe Rapaport and nonmember Tim Swallen.
