Clear Lake

September 21, 2008

We gathered at SEHS at 8:30 and headed up the McKenzie Highway, hoping to see fall colors. Although we had a bit of drizzle, the hike around Clear Lake was pleasant and we enjoyed stopping at all the markers to read about the natural history of the lake. We stopped for lunch at the Great Springs and marveled at the source of the McKenzie River. The vine maple was indeed red in places, and although the lake was riffled with wind and we couldn’t see the underwater forest, it was a good tramp on this day of the the autumnal equinox. Members included Beth Roy, Marshall Kandell, Julie Dorland, Wayne Cleall, and Anne-Marie Askew; nonmembers joining us were Moshe Rapaport, James Baldwin, and Ralph Core.
