Spencer Butte

October 25, 2007

The weather report was for cloudy and windy or sunny and breezy. Either way, the hike from Amazon Headwaters to Spencer Butter turned out to be a winner with a spectacular display of yellow leaves on the trees and on the trail. Fog and sunlight filtering through the canopy of trees made for scenic fall views. Andy Thompson, a former member who now resides in Switzerland, urged us to stop and be impressed with some of the large and very old trees on the trail. It was windy on top so we only lingered long enough to catch the outlines of the Three Sisters. The trip took us 3½ hours. Parts of the trail were new for several of the hikers. All were impressed with a forest hike so close to home.

Hikers were: Walt Dolliver, Carol Petty, Andy Thompson, Lynne Tracy, Elle Weaver and Janet Jacobsen, leader.
