Lorane to Drain Bicycle Loop

September 29, 2007

John Hegg, Ruby Seitz and Lyndell Wilken managed to get a lucky break with the weather and had dry conditions for our ride through the coastal range to Drain. We began at the Lorane Post Office and followed the Siuslaw Rd., to Buck Creek Rd., to Smith River Rd. to Drain. The rain from the night before brought out the smells of the forest floor including wonderful ferns that lined the banks of the creeks. We had lots of time to look around at the foliage given our three significant climbs during the 52-mile loop. After 35 miles we arrived at the Gateway House Restaurant in Drain for lunch. The time off of our bicycle seats was appreciated by all. The final 17 miles via 99 to Lorane Hwy. featured several very cute alpacas that came out to greet us.
