Veneta-Our Daily Bread

July 7, 2007

Seven riders met under sunny skies at the Campbell Senior Center at 10 a.m. We had one rider, Kurt Koivu, who had just moved to Eugene from Grand Rapids, Michigan the previous week and a second non-member, Laurel Peterson, who was getting married in a week. Thanks to both of them for taking time out from major life changes to ride with us! We headed north on High Street, 5th, Pearl and the Amazon bike path to catch 29th up to the Loraine Highway. We continued out to Veneta on back roads and arrived at noon for lunch. After a delicious meal, we got back on our bikes and headed for home via various back roads that were planned to connect us to the Fern Ridge bike path. Unfortunately, right before we reached highway 126, Kurt had a major blowout. His tire had a three inch long tear. After one failed attempt to repair the damage, we were able to plug the hole well enough to limp slowly back into town. Despite the flat, everyone had a good time and enjoyed the weather—only in the low 80s after several days in the 90s. Riders included Stewart Hoeg, Pam Morris, Laurie Funkhouser, Darrell McBee, Dick Moffitt and non-members Kurt Koivu and Laurel Peterson.
