Kirkwood Trail

August 9, 2007

One very nice feature of this camp was the variety of great hiking nearby, without the need to enter the busy Park. This trail was one of the easiest to get to, being little more than five miles away, and on the main, paved highway. The trail winds up a sage covered hillside, avoiding private property parcels, then drops down in the woods to the former trialhead behind the town of Kirkwood. It then follows up the North Fork of Kirkwood Creek, and, after passing through a quaint, secluded meadow, switches back and forth up through sage and wildflower slopes to the crest. When the trail started heading down into woods we decided to turn back, having no desire to have to climb back up on our way out. We stopped for lunch on a ridge overlooking Hebgen Lake (Reservoir.)

Hikers were: Marianne Camp, Chris Minirich and Wayne Deeter, leader.
