Lightning Lake TrailJuly 27, 2007During a summer camp scouting trip it was learned that the locals call this trail the Grizzly Bear Superhighway. Armed to the teeth with pepper spray, we explored this trail on the last setup day to see what we could see. Lush meadows alternated with open forest carpeted with wildflowers. A couple miles up the trail we came upon bear paw prints in the mud. That’s the closest anyone got to grizzlies during the entire camp. We estimated that we had hiked about three miles up the trail. No one chose to duplicate this trip during the two weeks of camp, though it would have made a pleasant hike to Lightning Lake, with very little driving. The trail starts from Potamogeton Park, at the end of the Beaver Creek Road, less than five driving miles from camp. Hikers were: Marianne Camp, John and Jan Jacobsen, Chris Minirich and Wayne Deeter, reporter. |
