South Sister

September 2, 2007

Another beautiful late summer day on South Sister — this time on a holiday week-end, and just following an R-G article on the very same mountain by Bill Sullivan — all this rendered September 2 the most crowded time I’ve seen there.

By mutual agreement, the pace was slow, but with clear skies and lots of daylight, it was just fine. Everyone reached the summit early to mid-afternoon, enjoyed the views, watched the Black Butte fire spread, then headed back.

Hikers ages varied from 11 to 66 — they included non-Obsidians Meredith Fox, Leslie Sullivan, Vonnie Willard and Eric Gurzon; also Obsidians Mary & Brian Hamilton, Janet Jacobsen, Charles Durham, Andrew Blumm and leader Buzz Blumm.
