Ray Benson Sno-ParkJanuary 21, 2006Did we ever have snow—great powder and lots of it! This was the first time I had led this ski trip for the club. Twelve eager skiers left Eugene in three cars. We reached the sno-park, in the Santiam Pass, about 11:15 after one car chained up. We did the South Loop trail to Brandenberg Shelter starting under cloudy skies. The sun peeked out for a short while and some of us got to break trail so we got a work out which made us appreciate our lunch. After some tough going atop the windy ridge we made it to the shelter with Doug McCarty in the lead. At the shelter we joined several others to make about 20 people cozying up for lunch. After lunch we returned via the same route forgoing the loop trail. We returned to the cars about 4 o’clock which made a long but delightful day for the following participants. Members: Anne Bonine, Stephen Brader, Sandra Larsen (leader), Patrice McCaffrey, Doug McCarty, Carol Petty, Sharon Ritchie, Suzanne Steussy, Charlie Van Deusen and Nancy Whitfield. Nonmembers: Chris Christensen and Judy Reminger. |
