Umpqua Dunes

October 8, 2006

Members Jane Allen, Julie Dorland, Bob Huntley (leader), Zella Andreski, and non-member Bill Roger enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day at the coast. We crossed the 2½ miles of dunes to the beach, where we saw some sea lions in the surf. We walked south on the beach to the mouth of Tenmile Creek, then cut back across the dunes to our starting point, making a rough triangle out of the hike. We stopped frequently to admire nature’s artistry in sculpting the slightly moist sand. There were quite a few animal tracks, too. We couldn’t identify the small tracks, but the biggest ones were made by a bear.
