September 16, 2006
Saturday, September 16th, nine eager hikers met at SEHS. It was cloudy on the way up. Much to our surprise, snow was on the mountains and trail. Three of us had scouted it a couple of weeks earlier. The trail was very dusty. On our hike, the trail was no longer dusty and was pretty with a new coating of snow. The sun came out during lunch time and we got a view of North Sister.
On our way to South Matthieu, we met a couple who were doing the Pacific Crest trail. They had been enroute since May, averaging 25 miles a day.
On our return, we stopped at the Dee Wright Observatory. Part of the group walked on the trail nearby. The clouds lifted long enough for us to see Mt Washington. One car load stopped at Finn Rock cafe on the way home. Thanks to Zella Andreski and Michelle Tambellini for driving.
Hikers were: Zella Andreski, Daniele Delaby, Yuan Hopkins, Sherwood Jefferies, Carol Petty, Richard Sundt and Glen Svendsen. Co-leaders: Barbara Schomaker and Michelle Tambellini.
