Sullivan Cabin & Cascade Head

July 26, 2006

A small group set out from Eugene, picking up one additional member in Junction City, to meet hiker/writer Bill Sullivan at Salishan so that he could lead us into his cabin, written about in his books. A bird-watching group from Corvallis joined us, so about 20 people had the privilege of seeing his home-made cabin on the Siletz River, as well as hearing the history of his father’s cabin nearby. We had tea and snacks at the cabin, and the Obsidians moved on to get to the Cascade Head trail by 2 p.m. Although the Head was shrouded in mists and a heavy wind blew, everyone made it to the top, and the views for at least part of the way were still spectacular. Hikers included Joan Abel, Zella Andreski, Lee Darling, Paul Flashenberg, Jim Gilletee, Anne Dhu McLucas, leader, Anne Montgomery, Julie Dorland, and Laura Vaughan.
