Walker MountainFebruary 20, 2005We met at South Eugene High School lot at 0700. We drove over Willamette Pass, parked the car on the side of Highway 97 and began the ski up to Walker Mountain. The sky was overcast with no winds. There was about two inches of new snow. After two miles the road begins to gain elevation and it started to snow. It snowed all the way to the top. On top we had lunch in the old historic stone hut built in 1917. The sun also came out. We waxed the skis for the long down hill run. We had about a six mile down hill run with a 2300 foot total drop. We arrived at the cars safe and drove home. Total miles skied was 16 with a 2400 foot elevation gain. Those on the trip were Sam Miller, Craig Renkert and leader Kevin McManigal. |
