Maiden Peak

September 18, 2005

As expected, the Maiden peak hike turned out to be the “fall classic.” Starting from SEHS at 8 a.m., five hikers drove to the Maiden Peak trail head on Gold Lake Road and started the pleasant hike through the old growth forest. As it does every year, the Willamette forest presents a wonderful, cool start to a pleasant trail to the top of Maiden Peak. As one of the hikers, Paul Brown, just moved to the Eugene area (the “center of the known universe”) much of the hiking talk was centered on acquainting Paul with Lane County and the State of Oregon and what it had to offer. The temperature stayed in the low 50s (it seemed) for the entire hike, but it was a beautiful, blue- sky day and the views at the top were panoramic. Paul Brown (non-member), Becky Lipton, John Lee, Dave Strutin and leader Doug McCarty had a great day in this fall classic.
